9 wild things about me that make me myself πŸ’…

‘Tis been years since I last shared a post containing “facts about me”, and πŸ€” these don’t quite fit into their own post.

Looking up to the left

1. My biggest regret ever

I do this all the time because I wonder, “How bad could it be?” and forget about the result every single time.

I forget about the pain of eating dishes with a lot of cheese and milk.

I’m lactose intolerant, you see.

My love of cheese cannot be replaced by any vegan cheese alternative; it’s not the same at all, ever.

I forget the pain in my rumbling stomach and the urge to use the toilet, but that need amounting to nothing.

Bonus fact: This one inspired the post. πŸ’©πŸ’€πŸ˜πŸ˜

2. I mostly drink water.

It’s not a good thing, either. πŸ˜…

My stomach doesn’t do well with high-sugar drinks or foods. All my energy is zapped, and stomach cramps commence.

Unfortunately, I have the most energy when I drink juice or nutritional shakes instead of water. I do those on occasion. The nutritional shakes cause less gastrointestinal issues for me.

I order Sprite if I’m dining at a restaurant, but will go for Powerade or a juice if I’m getting fast food and it’s available. I’ve learned not to get McDonald’s Sprite anymore, which is made with more sugar. πŸ₯΄

Tea is basically flavored water, since water is the basis for it, so I don’t count it. πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

Because I mostly drink water, I’ve had water poisoning issues from too much water more frequently than I’d like.

I think “most people” out there in the world don’t only drink water, even when they claim to.

I do, though. I mostly drink water — the recommended amount or more than — and it’s not great for my body overall.

Finding juice I can drink is hard. I love cranberry juice, but the bottles on the shelf are usually cocktail. “Diet cranberry juice” is hard to find, and yet that’s probably the only juice I can drink on a regular basis that doesn’t give me issues.

All this to say…if you see me drinking something else, that’s a special occasion or rarity. It’s not my norm.

My everyday is water. My issue is never whether in drinking enough water. πŸ₯΄

3. TV shows + movies > books

πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ I frequently prefer to watch TV shows and movies over reading the books.

I did this for required reading, because I struggled with reading comprehension and double empathy due to autism. Paired with Sparknotes, it was like I’d actually read the book — sometimes better than my peers.

(The trick is to search “movie vs book” differences, so you’re aware of the exact differences between each when asked about them. ✨)

I also often thing the TV show or movie was better than the book…despite owning a shirt that says otherwise.

4. I love spoilers.

People who withhold spoilers irritate me. If I ask for the spoilers, share them — don’t gatekeep them because you think I “need” to watch/read/find out for myself. πŸ™„

That said, I’m not a safe person for spoilers. I’m prone to spoiling things. I’m working on not doing so, but I prefer to chat with people who either don’t care about spoilers or are as up-to-date as I am. ✨

5. I don’t like touching food. πŸ₯’

I use a fork or chopsticks to avoid touching most food items. The greasy or sticky feeling on my fingers is a big no for me.

I eat popcorn with chopsticks. I’ll take a restaurant-style disposable set to the movie theater with me to avoid touching the deliciousness that theater popcorn. πŸ’β€β™€οΈ

I prefer eating fries and nuggets with a fork or chopsticks, too. Honestly, I will find any reason to eat food with chopsticks.

I find holding chopsticks is easier on my wrist than holding “regular” eating utensils. My carpal tunnel syndrome hurts less. I wish there was a chopsticks version of a spoon. πŸ˜…

In 2020, I bought a two-pair Goldage set of fiberglass, dishwasher-safe chopsticks for $30. I have no clue what happened to one of them, so I’m down to three total. πŸ€” I think one of them was burned by popcorn, but I can’t imagine throwing it away because of that. πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

They’re super high-quality, and I take good care of them (aside from the one). A dishwasher-safe pair was important to me, and I wasn’t sure if I’d be okay with metal chopsticks because I can’t stand the sound that happens when I accidentally touch a fork or spoon to my teeth. πŸ’€

…I have mostly hand-washed these chopsticks, though. πŸ˜… So the dishwasher-safe bit was in vain.

(Side note: Fiberglass chopsticks are lighter than metal chopsticks and probably even some wooden (bamboo) chopsticks. The koi scales design provides enough texture that they don’t slip out of my hands. I’m sad they’re not sold anymore. 😭)

6. I fall asleep to screen(s).

Look. I tried falling asleep without screen time. It doesn’t really work.

I find my mind needs stimulation until I am thoroughly existed, or else I don’t fall asleep — at all. I can’t take melatonin because of horrific side effects and haven’t experienced any harm from this.

Actually, my sleeping habits are healthy. πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ Playing a game or reading on my phone gives my brain what it needs to focus on the Sleep Sounds: Orchestra playing on my Echo Dot to lull me to sleep.

There’s usually this realization that I’m falling asleep, so I’ll put my phone on the nightstand and actually sleep. πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

If you don’t do this or need this, fine. If you don’t agree that this is “right” for me, I think you need to mind your business. πŸ’…

7. I moisturize almost every night.

Some nights, I haven’t the energy to moisturize or capacity for the sensory input of moisturizing, so I don’t.

I at least do the areas under my eyes because I have this special, expensive moisturizer for it that lasts a long time and leaves me feeling fancy. πŸ˜…

My arms, legs and feet are moisturized as I’ve the energy or tolerance for it.

I think this qualifies as a “quirk”, because apparently not everyone moisturizes after bathing?

My maternal relatives would moisturize to the point of being really greasy afterward, which I hated, so I avoided doing it myself.

I’m pleased with the routine I’ve created for myself now, though. ✨

8. I lean toward numbers ending in 4 and 8.

I like these numbers for how they look and sound. Some people have an affinity for the number seven; this is similar to that. πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

No need to pathologize it into an obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) thing, because it’s not. ✨

9. My cake habits πŸŽ‚

  • I scrape icing off cake, unless it’s chocolate. If it’s strawberry icing, I scrape it off and mix the cake into it with my fork.
  • Some cakes have wayyy too much icing so I don’t bother eating it at all.
  • When I make cake, I often use cool whip to ice it unless I’m craving chocolate icing.
  • I don’t ice vanilla cake mix at all if I have Torani vanilla syrup. Instead, I use vanilla extract and ground cinnamon to enhance the box cake mix and top with vanilla syrup. This is my breakfast cake. ✨

What are some of your quirks? 😊

Hello!

I wondered if all McDonalds drinks were made with more sugar than their supermarket or drugstore versions

[or even the ones made in the bars or by other fast food people].

And yeah for stimulation until fully and finally asleep.

The quirk posts – I spend so much time relating I don’t really go and share my own.
