January blog post ideas

January is the biggest month of the year for

  • fresh starts
  • inspiration
  • goal-making
  • lifestyle changes
  • motivation
  • personal development

People may turn to Pinterest, where they will find blogs, as a source of inspiration.

So I’m providing you with creative blog post ideas to cover for January search traffic.

Best time to publish new January content

After analyzing my own blog traffic, I’ve found seasonal-based content traffic starts picking up again 2-3 months prior to that season or month.

So I aim to publish that content as late as two months prior, unless I don’t expect to reap the benefits of that post until the same-ish time next year.

So traffic picks up for my December blog post ideas starting in September or October.

By the actual month of December, the post is losing traffic.

With that same pattern, this blog post ideas post should pick up starting October or November. By January, it’ll be old news.

Similar happens with Pinterest trends — they’re an entire season ahead of the current one.

January content should be published between September and October so it has plenty of time to be indexed by search engines.

(Pinterest may help you escape this indexing period, since it’s a visual search engine you can promote your blog posts on.)

Tips for choosing January blog post ideas

You could totally ask ChatGPT to give you blog post ideas for January based on your content pillars.

And they’ll all be baseless, useless blog post ideas.

Because ChatGPT doesn’t understand human intent. It hinges on “January blog post ideas” and the literal, basic definition of your clusters.

It’s not going to understand your intent behind your content clusters. The ideas will be random, even if they sound like good ideas.

This list of blog post ideas may also feel random if you don’t connect any of them to your current — or upcoming — content clusters.

Consider how the ideas could link to your own main topics.

If blog post ideas in the self-development topic interest you, brainstorm 5-10 more self-development blog post ideas you could produce inline with your brand.

Basically,

How can you take these generic blog post ideas and align them to your brand?

January observances

Writing blog posts about unique holidays or observances may sound silly, but could actually bring new readers to your blog!

Dropping the name of the observance into KeySearch will show the likelihood of your post ranking higher than others in Google or Bing.

Some observances may be chances to link to affiliate products, too.

National Bath Safety Month

While this topic is perfect for parenting bloggers, its also perfect for

  • caregiver bloggers
  • bloggers who live alone
  • bloggers with chronic conditions
  • bloggers with soap sensitivities or allergies

National Blood Donor Month

  • Tips for Donating Blood for the First Time
  • Where to Donate Blood in [Location]

National Hobby Month

This is a wonderful chance to start a hobby-related content cluster or nurture a hint of a hobby cluster.

Pinterest users often love hobby content!

Hobby-based blog post ideas:

  • Activity books/notebooks
  • Supplies list
  • Tips for beginners
  • Tutorials

For instance, I could write these blog posts about watercolor painting:

  • Best watercolor supplies (give options for beginners & beyond)
  • Easy watercolor tutorials for beginners
  • Ultimate guide to choosing watercolor paper
  • Watercolor tips for beginners

I could even write individual posts about the different kinds of watercolor paint:

  • Cakes
  • Crayons
  • Pans
  • Pencils
  • Tubes

Or a post about water brush pens — how to open them, refill them, clean them.

Hobby content ideas seem easier from my perspective because of the many opportunities.

Once you brainstorm one idea, it’s a slippery slope from there if you analyze that post idea for additional related blog post ideas.

National Oatmeal Month

Food bloggers can share edible oatmeal recipes or roundups.

Beauty bloggers could share oatmeal bath or skincare recipes.

Parenting bloggers could share about the dangers of feeding oatmeal cereal to babies.

And if the typical warm, breakfast-y oatmeal is not for you, what about overnight oats or savory oatmeal?

National Soup Month

Share your favorite soup recipes — or your fave soup accessories.

Think soup spoons, soup mugs, soup bowls…or even bulk shelf-stable soup buys.

Cheap, large-batch soup recipes you can freeze and eat on for the season.

Or soup sides, like the best homemade garlic bread to go with your favorite soups.

Or recipes using leftover soup. I like pouring leftover beef stew over mashed potatoes.
